I love to cook, and I used to love to grocery shop (yes, I’m that girl). But, I’m two kids in, and things change. I’m not in that season of life where I plan out meals. Right now, I buy a ton of stuff so I have options–not super budget friendly! Enter Walmart Pick-Up Service–this little gem saves me money EVERY SINGLE TIME!
(AND: NO, I’M NOT GETTING A KICKBACK FROM WRITING THIS:)
It took me about a year to get on the Walmart pick-up service bandwagon, but now I’m HOOKED! The biggest turn on for me—I save a ton of money. I don’t pick up things just because they’re on sale or because I might need it in a week. I stick to what I actually need.
If you’re looking for a SUPER easy way to slash your grocery budget, then I recommend trying Walmart’s Grocery Pickup service for a month and see how much you save! It is the BEST budget tip for buys moms….EVER!

Money Talks
Out of pure curiosity, I compared my SUMMER receipts from “regular” in-store grocery shopping VS my Walmart’s pick up service receipts (obtained since school started). Note, there’s nothing scientific about this. I just wanted to see if my feelings were right about spending less through pick up.
I went down my bank account summary and made a list. And, I WAS right! I was kind of shocked!
Here’s my breakdown of my last 9 IN STORE visits:
- $65.00
- $234.49
- $55.65
- $223.27
- $52.81
- $99.54
- $183.19
- $109.68
Take Aways:
- I would try to buy for 2 weeks at a time (hence the $200+ receipts), but I would inevitably need to come back for more before the 2 weeks were up! (hence the $50+ receipts crammed in the middle).
- I would spend about $130/week on groceries with IN STORE purchases.
Here are my last 4 Walmart Pick UP receipts:
- $35.56
- $31.70
- $32.93
- $41.70
Take Aways:
- My totals always seem to stay VERY close to that $30 minimum for same day pick up! I don’t know if my subconscious sees it as a game to see if I can get absolutely everything I need for $30, or if I genuinely only need $30 worth of groceries. Either way–WIN!
- Another thing I noticed is that when I go shopping in store, I buy for 2 weeks. When I pick-up, it’s usually Monday. And, I only get what I need for the week ahead.

The Quick & Dirty:
With Walmart’s Pick-Up Service you have to get $30 worth of groceries, but I’m 100% gonna do that every SINGLE time (and twice on Tuesday).
Being able to shop online (via app or on site) from my list of favorites, means I can go “shopping” while I drink my coffee in the morning. I can buy what I’m out of—and I can pop back into my kitchen to see what else I need. Then, I can go pick up my groceries later in the day after I get the kids from school.
I don’t have to plan a trip to the store, navigate two unruly children, and wait in the longest line on the planet. I just have to point, click and pick up. No Brainer!
Nice Bonus: I’ve gotten an upgrade on items (double size usually) when they’re out of the size I want. I’ve had it happen on everything from conditioner to garlic. WITH NO UPCHARGE!

Walmart or Bust
I know there are some serious Walmart haters out there, but I’m not one of them. If I ever thought of straying, then this whole pick-up service has made me a Walmart-er for life!
Life gets busy with work, kids, and a life of being on the go. There is so much to be said for NOT having to deal with the craziness of shopping. That’s just where this mama is right now.
I know there’s a lot to be said for meal planning, too—don’t get me wrong! But, right now, when I’m not planning things out with great predictability, Walmart Pick Up is really helping this girl’s BUDGET out!
If you haven’t tried it yet, and you’re looking for a new time, energy, and money saver–you should give it a go! Happy Shopping!
