As a self-proclaimed foodie and the wife of a food photographer, you can imagine the library of cookbooks at our home. But, not all cookbooks are created equal. Many are just WAY to complicated or TOTAL snoozers. But, there is nothing better than discovering that new FAVORITE cookbook. My latest obsession is Thug Kitchen: eat like you give a f*uck, The Official cookbook.
Thug Kitchen: eat like you give a f*uck is the polar opposite of boring. It is delicious as it is irreverent—a killer combo!
Unless you’re already familiar with www.thugkitchen.com, its filterless instructions may have some shock value. But, if you, too, have a past life as a sailor, then you’ll likely just find yourself laughing out loud at the way recipes are written by these vegetarian gurus. (Check out this one on their website as an example of what you can expect.)
They bluntly claim that this cookbook is “for everyone who wants to do better but gets lost in the bullshit.”
Thug Kitchen will change your attitude about cooking vegetarian dishes and maybe about cooking in general.

The Gist
This is 100% vegetarian cuisine. No meat. No dairy.
The recipes are easy to follow and with instructions like, “PREP WORK, MOTHERFUCKER,” it’s really hard to get lost.
If you’re thinking of going vegetarian or just TRYING to eat more produce, then this will make it FUN.
Here are a few of my favorite recipes and respective tag lines:
- Shredded Carrot and Apple Muffins: “With 2 servings of produce packed in this grab and go breakfast, these muffins mean fucking business.”
- Lemony Red Lentil Soup: “This isn’t that boring brown lentil mush you find in places where food goes to die. We wouldn’t do you like that. The spices and lemon makes this some next-level shit that you will actually want to eat.”
- Spiced Chickpea Wraps with Tahini Dressing “This captures the smoky flavor of a falafel without all the fucking work.”
See what I mean?

What I Love About It
It is unapologetically blunt. This, above all else, is refreshing.
Cookbooks are NOT typically entertaining. Most are NOT page-turners. AND, I’d bet my life on it that you’ve never LAUGHED OUT LOUD while reading any of them, right?
Let’s put it this way: there are more F-bombs in this book than in my entire freshman year of college.
And, with verbiage that includes “fuckton” and “fuckery” Thug Kitchen will at MINIMUM grab your attention.
I am knee deep in month two of switching my family over to a vegetarian (or plant-based) lifestyle. This book came into my life at just the right time!
When you’re trying to detox from bacon and dairy….F-bombs can be cathartic.
Give A F*ck
Whether your goal is to get a little more veg in the hum-drum routine, or if you want to go full on vegan for all the health benefits, then look no further than Thug Kitchen: eat like you give a f*ck, the Official Cookbook.
This should be a cookbook staple in every mom’s house.
Because, let’s get real: who doesn’t drop F-bombs every SINGLE day in the kitchen?
Plus, if your kids happen to overhear you drop an F-bomb….you can always say “I’m just following the recipe!”
Lighten up and go check this one out!
