January brings out the “it’s time to fix shit” attitude in just about everyone. But, more often than not, our GOOD habits get glossed over without skipping a beat. We pay SO much attention to what is wrong with our lives that we rarely give any credence to what’s actually working for us. I think the good habits we have in our lives need to be given their 15 minutes.
When was the last time you took note of what IS WORKING in your life?
By identifying and appreciating the good habits we have, we give ourselves credit and grace to face another day.

What Good Habits Do You Have?
The fog of January is thick and filled with the desperation of trying to do something better with our lives—whether that’s changing your waistline or changing your job. I wish that January was all about analyzing what works with our lives, so that we can say, “Yeah, I’m doing pretty good with X—I think I’ll do more of that.”
Because we’re constantly on the quest for improving or upping our game, we don’t spend nearly enough time checking in on what’s working. No wonder we’re exhausted!
So, as a practice in self-care, it’s important to not forget to bear witness to your own life and see all the good stuff you’ve got going on. I think it’s an amazing exercise to notice the good habits we’ve started or have etched in stone for ourselves.
Truthfully, we just don’t ever give that stuff props. Perhaps January is a time to change that! If you want a *free* worksheet to dive deep into your own Good Habits, then just click here for access!

What Do You Like About Yourself?
Take a step back and note the habits you’ve developed as a person. Your habits may be of kindness, or of being the girl who doesn’t judge. Maybe you’re just a fantastic listener (which is rare and should be acknowledged).
Perhaps you have great self-care habits, or maybe you’re inspiring to others because you’ve been brave enough to follow your dreams.
These are all good things. They should be seen and given their day in the sun.

What Do You Like About Your Morning Routine?
So, this is easy to bitch about—the morning rush. But, maybe you’ve developed some good habits that are rarely noticed because they’ve been overshadowed by the negative.
So, what’s GOOD? Do you religiously make the perfect cup of coffee without fail everyday? Maybe you’ve mastered getting up 20 minutes before everyone else, so you have time to sit in the quiet house before all hell gets unleashed?
Perhaps you’ve gotten really good at rounding up the neighborhood kids for carpool. Maybe you’re the queen of lunch box prep.
Or, maybe you’re the lady who’s high fiving yourself for getting all kids where they need to be and arriving to work on time more often than not? Ladies, these are all good things you’ve got WORKING for you. Keep that shit up!

What Do You Like About Your Daytime Routine?
Whether you’re a stay at home mom, a work at home mom, or a working mom, a mom on hiatus, a brand new mom or a mom whose kids are ready to fly the coop—there are good habits and wins to be found in everyone’s day.
What parts of your day give you joy? What things fill you up? When are you feeling like you’re in the zone?
Maybe it’s when you take advantage of the YMCA daycare and do a little cardio (even though you got up twice last night to breast feed). Are you busting your but taking classes to get that degree you’ve been talking about completing for years?
Perhaps you’re the girl who’s been tweaking that resume for weeks so it highlights all the reasons your decision to be a SAHM for 10 years makes you an asset to any company.
Your day is filled with good habits that likely go unrecognized, and that in and of itself can stifle and cloud the real, positive, beautiful things that you’ve got going in your life.

What Do You Like About Your Relationships?
Friendships, partnerships, children, spouses—the list goes on and on. But, let’s take a peek and see what you’ve got going on in this area. Maybe you’ve got way more GOOD happening here than you know.
Take stock of the times when you’ve been there to hold someone’s hand—or they’ve been there to hold yours. Or, how happy you were when you took a leap of faith on a new relationship and it didn’t disappoint. Think of the effort you put into sending love to your spouse (even when they sometimes don’t deserve it).
Also, don’t forget about how frequently you show-up for your co-workers even when you don’t need or have to do it. These are all GOOD habits that add beauty and depth to your life.

What Do You Like About Your Food & Beverage Choices?
Food and bevies….oh, lord. We all have an agenda here, right? I mean, damn. There’s always something we feel like we could or should be doing that we aren’t or can’t for various reasons. But, for a second—drop all of your ideas of what you should be doing.
Let’s see the GOOD for a hot minute.
Are you a water drinker? Do you go light on the meat? Maybe you are that one weird person that holds the cheese on your pizza. Or, perhaps you’ve decreased your coffee intake to just a cup or two a day.
Take a close look—there are good habits lurking about. Find ONE. And for the love of god, give yourself props.

Shout Out to the GOOD HABITS
As women, we can be hyper critical of others, and we can be even worse on ourselves. We can go days, weeks, months—even years—without so much as taking stock of the awesome lives we have.
I can’t stress how important it is to do this simple act from time to time. January is perhaps the BEST time to see what GOOD stuff you’ve got sprinkled throughout your day and your life.
By taking stock of the good you’ve got going on, it will give you a foundation to build on. It helps you tackle the next day without feeling defeated or like you’re starting from scratch.
So, take a minute and refocus your attention from what habits you wish you had to the actual good habits you do have in your life.
